At the foot of Cortona lies the MAEC Archaeological Area, in the locality of Sodo di Cortona, where two imposing Etruscan tombs from the Archaic period rise: the Tumulo I and Tumulo II of the Sodo. Known locally as “meloni” (“melons”) because of their distinctive shape, they date to the late 7th and 6th centuries BC and are monumental burial structures celebrating the prestige of aristocratic families.
Our staff is available to provide information on services and on the cultural offer of MAEC, Cultural Itineraries, and the MAEC Park.
