At the foot of Cortona lies the MAEC Archaeological Area, located in the locality of Sodo di Cortona, where two imposing Etruscan tombs from the Archaic period rise: the Sodo Tumuli I and II, locally known as “meloni” because of their distinctive shape.
These two funerary monuments were built between the late 7th and the 6th century BC to celebrate the prestige and power of the local aristocratic families.
The Info Point staff is available to assist visitors with information about services and the cultural offerings of the MAEC, its cultural itineraries, and the MAEC Archaeological Park.
