40 Years after the Etruscan Project<\/h2><\/div>

The MAEC \u2013 Museo dell\u2019Accademia Etrusca e della Citt\u00e0 di Cortona presents the exhibition
\n\u201cThe Etruscans in the Netherlands. 40 years after the Etruscan Project\u201d, celebrating the historic
\nbond between Cortona and the city of Leiden, under the sign of Etruscan culture and
\ninternational collaboration. <\/span><\/p>\n

Promoted by the Municipality of Cortona and the Accademia Etrusca, in collaboration with
\nthe Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden<\/a>, the exhibition marks a new chapter in the
\nenhancement of archaeological heritage and recalls the Year of the Etruscans (1985) \u2014 a
\nmilestone in the cultural history of Tuscany and Italy, when archaeology evolved from being
\nknowledge for the few into a shared public heritage. <\/span><\/p>\n

Through five sections, the exhibition retraces the evolution of archaeological thought and
\ncollecting from the eighteenth century to the present day. It opens with the Etruscan Project<\/a>
\n(1985), then explores the growing interest in archaeology (1727\u20131826) with the foundation
\nof the Accademia Etrusca and the rediscovery of ancient origins. The third section takes
\nvisitors to the Netherlands, tracing the journey of the Cortona artefacts to the Rijksmuseum
\nvan Oudheden in Leiden and illustrating the broader history of European collecting. The
\nfourth part focuses on the valorisation of national heritage through the major
\narchaeological discoveries of the Cortona area and recent international collaborations,
\nwhile the final section examines the influence of the Etruscans on contemporary art,
\nfeaturing works such as <\/span>Janus by Gino Severini and the Ginori Statuettes Collection \u2013 Etruscan
\nProject 1985.<\/p>\n

At the heart of the exhibition is the temporary return of significant Etruscan artefacts from
\nthe Corazzi Collection, on loan from the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden. Their
\nsymbolic homecoming to Cortona \u2014 the place of their origin \u2014 represents both an act of
\nmemory and a renewed form of cultural cooperation between Italy and the Netherlands.
\nAs in 1985, this exhibition aims to foster participation, dialogue and shared awareness of
\nthe enduring value of historical and artistic heritage. The initiative also anticipates the
\nforthcoming celebrations for the 300th anniversary of the Accademia Etrusca of Cortona
\n(1727\u20132027). <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
